Foster home for adolescent girls in Poipet

The aim of this project is to create an enabling environment for adolescent girls in order to give them the opportunity to study and access higher education.

Project name

Foster home for students.

Project

Home for 33 girls.

Date

2012

Location

Poipet (Cambodia).

Issue

One of the main problems in Cambodia is the lack of resources and opportunities for adolescent girls to attend school.

In many cases they do not have the economic power to do so or they have to work to contribute to their families. On the other hand, the family environment is complicated: parents absent, lack of support, etc. and girls who are able and willing to study lack support.

Project Description

The house has the capacity to accommodate 23 girls. The aim of this project is to create an enabling environment for adolescent girls in order to give them the opportunity to study and access higher education because otherwise, due to their financial circumstances, responsibilities and family burdens, these girls would not be able to go to school.

Results

At the home, the girls are provided with a safe, family environment and support so that they can continue their education and, after finishing secondary school, they have the option of going on to university.

There are currently 25 girls studying at university or higher education level.

Foster home for adolescent girls in Poipet

Hasu Gamit: “The social reality in which we live pushed us to design and dream of a new educational Project for young girls who often dropped out of school to work, preferably in Thailand, or engage in prostitution... To help them build their future with a better quality of life, helping them to develop human, social and cultural values. Only the MAGA FOUNDATION could make this urgent need a reality. The continuous contact with them, Javier’s visits to our mission, but above all his human sensitivity and generosity to support situations of real poverty, led us to present the project which was immediately accepted”.
